Port Jefferson Marketing for a Harbor Village With Two Hospitals

Few small villages on Long Island have two hospitals. Mather Hospital, part of Northwell, and Good Samaritan University Hospital's St. Charles Campus on Belle Terre Road, long known as St. Charles Hospital, both sit in Port Jefferson, and the medical offices around them serve much of northern Brookhaven. Doctors here compete with hospital-affiliated groups and with each other on the same handful of roads.

Down the hill, the harbor brings a different crowd. The Port Jefferson Ferry crosses to Bridgeport, Connecticut, and Main Street and East Main Street fill with diners and shoppers on weekends, in summer and again around the holidays. The Port Jefferson LIRR station sits at the end of its branch in the upper part of the village, close to Route 112 and the shopping centers of Port Jefferson Station.
